This is Part 20 of 20, my last piece, the most personal, and the most heartbreaking and graphic of my ongoing series covering some of the worst terrorist attacks in modern history and the innocent people whose lives were stolen. If you want to read all the previous 19 articles, click here.

If you want to watch some documentaries/shows about October 7th, here are a few powerful ones.

On the night of October 6th, I was in Israel. My flight was leaving at 1 am on October 7th. Because of the time difference, I got confused and thought my flight was the following day, so we sat down for Shabbat dinner. All of a sudden, my wife asked me to look at the tickets. I looked at her and said, “Oh, oh.” Our flight was in four hours, and we hadn’t even packed yet. We discussed pushing it back by a day, but decided against it. We ate quickly, packed quickly, and headed to the airport. We got on the flight at 1 am and landed in Chicago about fourteen hours later.

As soon as we got off the plane, everyone’s phones were exploding with messages. I saw people crying. My WhatsApp groups were flooded with texts, videos, and then a message from one of my friends: “It’s a massacre. They’re massacring us.”

Initially, I didn’t buy it. After a few decades of living in Israel, you become somewhat numb to attacks. But quickly, I understood - this wasn’t another attack. This was an attempted genocide. Then all shit hit the fan…
